CRN For Additional Quality Assurance
TSSA is the Technical Standards and Safety Authority. They are an independent, non-government, non-profit organization. The Boiler and Pressure Vessels Safety Division of TSSA is responsible for the regulation of boilers, pressure vessels, pressure piping, fittings and hose assemblies as outlined under the CSA B51-97: Boiler, Pressure Vessel and Pressure Piping Code. Each province of Canada has a similar regulating body. CRN stands for Canadian Registration Number. This is a number issued by TSSA to a company signifying that the hose assemblies produced by that company comply with the requirements of TSSA. The CRN number is either engraved on one of the fittings of the hose assembly or appears on a metal tag attached to the hose assembly. The approval process for CRN includes the assembly and testing of a representative cross-section of hose product lines supplied by Tri-Canada, under the supervision of the TSSA. The CRN approval process also includes protocols for Documentation, Testing and Quality Control of all CRN hoses from Tri-Canada. All customers must confirm with Tri-Canada Sales Representatives at time of order that CRN approval is required.
The eleven types of flexible hoses covered by Tri-Canada’s CRN are listed in the TSSA-approved Scope of Registration. Each hose is approved with several different end fittings for use at a specific Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) at Room Temperature (RT). If a different end fitting is required, that can be done with an adapter that is not part of the hose assembly. CRN hoses must be assembled in Tri-Canada’s manufacturing facility, following our TSSA-approved Quality Control Program as per Certificate of Authorization QA 00498 expiry date Oct 16,2028.
